Hellesylt Hydrogen Hub becomes the first RFNBO-certified hydrogen production site in Norway

The certification confirms that renewable hydrogen produced at Hellesylt complies with the EU's requirements for Renewable Fuels of Non-Biological Origin (RFNBO), covering strict criteria for sustainability, renewable electricity sourcing, and full traceability from power source to end-product.
With RFNBO status in place, hydrogen from Hellesylt now qualifies for applications, compliance markets, and support schemes across Europe where RFNBO-certified renewable hydrogen is a requirement under the EU regulatory framework. As Europe's hydrogen economy matures, regulatory compliance is becoming just as important as production capacity itself. The certification positions Norwegian Hydrogen to supply renewable hydrogen that meets the needs of customers operating in regulated markets today.

In 2024, the company's Danish facility at Grøn Brint obtained the very first RFNBO certificate issued anywhere in the industry. With Hellesylt now certified, Norwegian Hydrogen extends that track record into the Norwegian market.
CEO Jens Berge says the certification is an important milestone for the company's position in a European hydrogen market that is becoming increasingly regulated:
Site Manager Kåre Nerem, who leads day-to-day operations at Hellesylt, highlights the work behind the certification:
